I’m trying Find The Needle for the Steam Next Fest edition of You Made This. I Played It. I put together a list of roughly a hundred demos and let a random pick decide what I would play. This one starts with picking up hay and selling it, which immediately feels a little too much like a job. I figured I’d play for an hour or two and see what the demo had to offer. That was not how this went.
Eventually I’m building conveyor belts, powering robotic arms, scanning hay, and trying to get deliveries out of a factory that I really should have planned better. I keep finding upgrades that would have made things easier earlier, and every time I think I understand how much game is here, there’s another machine to figure out. There are wrapped bales, eco bricks, drones, and a growing mess of belts. The needle search is still the goal, but I spend a lot of the session trying to make the hay go where I want it to go.
I do finally find a needle and add it to the cabinet… but I have to stop before finishing the demo and come back afterward to give my thoughts (my kid woke up and I had to take care of him). The last stretch gets slow while I struggle with the next buildings, but I’m already thinking about how I’d do another run with a better layout. I give the demo an A and an 8.5, putting it above DashBreaker and Quiet Bloom on the series list so far. It feels a bit like Satisfactory with the goal of getting rid of your resources, and I like that idea quite a bit.
