I’m checking out DashBreaker for episode 2 of You Made This. I Played It., after an email from solo developer sagelab. It’s an active incremental space game where I dash through asteroids, collect gold, and buy upgrades between runs. I spend a while getting used to the controls and trying to stop myself from just flying into things. Once the dash chaining starts working, I keep wanting one more upgrade so I can stay out there a little longer.
Which would have been easier if I’d noticed I could keep upgrading the energy tank. I play for nearly an hour before that finally clicks, after spending a good chunk of the session wondering where the extra energy was supposed to come from. Classic mistake. Once I fix that, the runs get much longer, I start buying up the remaining upgrades, and eventually take down the Ark to finish the demo.
