Hunter's benefit isn't really all that fun to play around. It's possible to do, for instance, use the Hiking Stick and go all range for extra damage, but for Nightmare at least, the early extra damage and crit bonus made it more doable as you don't need to heavily invest as hard to get piercing.

There are no downsides with this character. You start with a boost of a few stats and basically play this character however you want so any strategy pretty much works. So if you find difficulty 5 hard, then you will find this hard but they have access to pretty much any strat or item you find if you focus on it enough.
